Openterface Setup

I bought this cool little KVM called Openterface that I use both at home and at work, here’s what I had to do to use it on my Fedora Atomic laptop.

Step 1: Download rpm

Get openterfaceQT_Linux_amd64.rpm from https://openterface.com/apps/

Step 2: Install the rpm in the distrobox

sudo rpm -i openterfaceQT_Linux_amd64.rpm

Step 3: Install the Qt xcb dependencies in distrobox

sudo dnf install xcb-util-wm xcb-util-image xcb-util-keysyms xcb-util-renderutil xcb-util-cursor libxkbcommon-x11

Step 4: Add udev rules on the host

This is required for keyboard input to work.

sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/51-openterface.rules >/dev/null <<'EOF'
SUBSYSTEM=="usb",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="534d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2109", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", ATTRS{idVendor}=="534d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2109", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="345f", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2109", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", ATTRS{idVendor}=="345f", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2109", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="345f", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2132", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", ATTRS{idVendor}=="345f", ATTRS{idProduct}=="2132", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="tty",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="1a86", ATTRS{idProduct}=="7523", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="1a86", ATTRS{idProduct}=="7523", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="tty",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="1a86", ATTRS{idProduct}=="fe0c", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb",    ATTRS{idVendor}=="1a86", ATTRS{idProduct}=="fe0c", TAG+="uaccess"
EOF
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules
sudo udevadm trigger

Step 5: Add groups on the host

You might already have these groups, check with id. I only needed dialout personally to see the screen and use the keyboard.

for g in dialout video; do
  getent group $g >/dev/null && ! grep -q "^$g:" /etc/group \
    && getent group $g | sudo tee -a /etc/group >/dev/null
done
sudo usermod -aG dialout,video $USER

Log out and back in.

Step 6: Launch the app
